Sexual Harrasment In The Workplace

The issue of sexual harrassment in the workplace is complicated by the fact that men and women view the issue of what constitutes sexual harrassment differently. The Journal of Applied Psychology reports on meta-analysis of research into gender differences sexual harrassment perceptions.

The analysis found that in areas of "gross" sexual harrassment there was no significant difference in perception between genders; however in areas that were more subtle, such as where the perpetrator has no authority over the victim and the alleged harrassment was not of a personal nature, men and women exhibited significant differences in what they considered harrassing. Put simply, some behaviours that men considered "harmless social interaction", women considered "harrassing".

Clearly there is a role for education in the workplace for men in the nature of what women consider harrassing and this has been embarked on with vigour over the last few years. Something that has not taken place, to my knowledge, is education programs for women, to help them understand and correctly interpret male behaviour. Many situations of conflict may be defused if the woman understood that the man was not intending to harrass but was simply interacting in a way that was acceptable a male perspective.

i think sexual harrasment in the workforce is very unfair to those either male or female who really wanted to perform theirability towards the works they have applied.

I would like to ask a comment from you that wheather you think sexual harrasment should be legalised and whats the impact on behalf of this issue towards our society. Thankyou

yours sincerely,
Amy

Amy, there is little argument by either sex that gross sexual harrassment is unacceptable and that what consitutes it is clearly understood.

The issue is clouded at the mild end by cultural and gender differences. It is equally unfair for those accused as perpetrators to be prevented from doing their job by vexacious and unreasonable claims.

At this mild end of the scale situations can sometimes be defused if the complainant comes to understand that it was a cultural/gender difference and not intentional harrassment. (as well as educating the alleged perpetrator)

Workplaces are happiest and the most productive when employees are tolerant and accepting of their differences, be they gender or culturally based.

AS A VICTIM OF GROSS SEXUAL HARRASMENT ON A PROLONGED SCALE I AM SO GLAD THERE ARE IN PLACE PROCEDURES THROUGH HREOC ETC TO DEAL WITH THIS INJUSTICE AND I DON'T CARE WHAT ANY MALE'S EXCUSE IS IT'S ABOUT TIME MEN BEHAVING BADLY GROW UP AND LEAVE THE SMUTTY MENTALITY IN THE FOOTY CHANGE ROOM AS THERE IS NO ROOM FOR IT IN ANY WORKPLACE !!!

It is also time for women to leave their prima donna, precious little princess attitudes in the powder room.

I suggest Julie looks for work in a convent if dealing with men damages her delicate sensibilities.

I think that sexual Harrasment is unfair.
i made a police report against my boss and the state is not even going to file criminal charges
because he lied and said it was mutual.
If it was so mutual why would i leave my job?
and, why would i plead for help to my fellow employees? And why would i contact the other store manager that told my bosses dad that owns the Company? The owners reply was that he wasn't going to get involved because it was his son.
This is so wrong and i have been going through alot of stress and counseling for the last 2 months. I lost my job that i loved! What can he possibly think mutual means? I don't think i can ever work for another man!
God bless, A.J.
