At $1.2 billion the new Space Infrared Telescope Facility is no chicken feed project. It was launched into space by a Delta rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida on 25 August 2003. Not all things in the Universe are best viewed using the visible light spectrum and this highly sensitive instrument allows us to peer at aspects of space which are hidden from optical telescopes.
So far it has delivered one image, a test. Here it is.

Wow, 1.2 billion for that. Clearly I am missing the subtly of astronomy. Fortunately the telescope will be taking photos for the next two and half years so the cost per photograph should drop considerably.
There are many jewels hidden amongst the leaves in this forgotten part of the ancient forest. Spend some time browsing and you are sure to find some. Click here or continue your search below
or read the most recent entries here.Well...I personally think this couldn't be the most expensive photo in the world. To deserve to be so it had to be the most spectacular, beautiful, emotional, ARTistic image ever!!!The most expensive photo should be "Dali Atomicus" by Philippe Halsmann.Anyway, you can take a look at my photos and set a new record! :))
