Web Site Matters

Bearing in mind that vomit can be very corrosive to keyboards and quite unaesthetic to boot it is important that your colour scheme doesn't stimulate this response in your readers. I am also aware that not all of you have The Green Man's impecible sense of colour matching. ColorMatch Remix is a site that will help you find a compatible set of colours for your web site and provides the hex and RGB values for the colours suggested.

Of course there is more to designing a site than the colour scheme and Optimization Week has done an analysis of the web sites of prominent US polititians in the lead up to next years elections, including that of the commander in chief. How did they rate?

In a word, poorly. While some sites were constructed for faster display times, most failed in accessibility tests, and no site got high scores on all counts.

On a 56k modem, which is the access method of choice for most Americans, George W Bush's page takes 45 seconds to load. This is far above the attention span of said Americans which, apparently, is 8.6 seconds.

Vis-a-vis The Green Man site, this would be bad news if his readership was not of such high calibre. Careful research has shown that the average reader of The Green Man has an IQ of 133.6 and an attention span of 1 minute 23.8 seconds. Accordingly you will be able to visit GWB's site safe in the knowledge you will not drift off while it is painting. Whilst there you can marvel at his committment to the environment. From reading the site I now know that

Clear Skies, President Bush’s initiative to improve the nation’s air quality, is the most aggressive initiative in American history to cut power plant emissions, as well as a bold new strategy for addressing global climate change.

I guess that is why Open Source reports his changes in enforcement policy will force the EPA to drop investigations into 50 power plants for past violations of the Clean Air Act.

But of course. Under his aggressive new initiative, even the most recalcitrant polluters have mended their ways and now are so environmentally friendly that there is no reason to investigate them further. All the money that would normally have been spent on that will no longer be wasted, it can now be channeled to more useful causes, like colonizing Iraq. Yay!

(I guess I'm just feeling really, really sarcastic this morning...)
