The Green Man Presents

Ever wondered what a person making a complete fool of themselves looks like. Well wonder no longer. Here is a photo of The Green Man on day one of the National Folk Festival.

Who would have guessed that it would be so scary getting up in front of a few hundred people and reading poetry.

It was a bit of a mistake to present "Out Back Yard" (which you can find below) on the first day. I think it was one of my better poems but it was stuffed up because I was so nervous.

Not to worry, there is always next year. Perhaps it will take the poor unsuspecting fools who attended that long to recover from The Green Man's poetry from this year. Who knows, next year I may even start writing the poems more that two days before the festival.

I'm sure they loved it, Greeny!

Greeny is fine although it does have another connotation in Australia it is also one I am comfortable with.

the green man wrote some poetry with me recently:
from
“afrighted of the horsies”…….

robin hood ruled o’er all o’ the creatures
that walked upon the earth

that was his god-given right, and he said,
there I will have my dominion

for on the earth I find
all of the humans
somewhat undone
and so broken hearted

dumb of spirit and dull of mind,
needing a swift kick up
big fat behinds….

whilst the animal folks have much for to say……
much more to teach me
‘bout all o’ the ways

and of dealings of men
and of women
and kids:

off dogs
and turtle-doves
frogs & pigs

we learn what we’ve maybe not known before

we know we learn
most we are loved
more than we live
more than we’ve loved
and even though
he he’d ne’er have known it in most of his minds
he was waiting & whilstling

for the time of his life
when he would be master
o’er the paddocks of the sherwood ranges
