For thousands of years the Sámi have been herding and domesticating reindeer. Here is a photo of a reindeer with full Sámi adornments standing patiently while his photo was taken. The indignity of having to wear said adornments vastly surpassed by the indignity of being stuffed.

There are many jewels hidden amongst the leaves in this forgotten part of the ancient forest. Spend some time browsing and you are sure to find some. Click here or continue your search below
or read the most recent entries here.I believe the so-called "indignity" of adornment is debatable as it applies to different cultures... and it is a far better life to be decorated while living. Besides, Americans dress up their dogs for Pete's sake!!! And don't forget the Clydesdales and all of the riding horses !!)
As for the reindeer, being dressed up is far better than being stuffed and placed on display. THAT is truly despicable!
The American faux-manhood mentality that says "look-at-what-I-killed -look-at-me-it's-mine-I'm-a-BigMan" is equally despicable!
It is extremely disgusting and insulting whenever I have to enter a local business, such as a print shop or a real estate office, and see those so-called "trophies" attached to a wall or sitting on a floor!! That should be against the law.
If you wanna be such a "big man", why don't you get yourself down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and do some REAL HEROIC acts -- like HELPING people and the animals that are still (Jan. 2007) suffering from Katrina!!! But then, I doubt your brain is not big enough to think like that!
Boy Nila, there is a lot of angst in that post and I am struggling to see any relationship with America and Americans. I am Australian and the post related to the Sámi of Northern Norway. There was not a piece of "American faux-manhood" within cooee of the post.
