Hanky panky is alive and growing in the US but some groups are more enthusiastic about it than others and it turns out that the TV sitcoms appear to be right, it is the 20 somethings that are going at it hammer and tong. The 30 somethings have had more sexual partners all up but then again they have had an extra 10 years.
In 2002 a fifth of all 20 something females had multiple sexual partners that year. That is nothing however compared to their male counterparts where a third were bouncing from bed to bed.
And what about the ageing hippies, the generation of free love, well it appears it might have been free but it was definitely not readily available. Your ageing hippie fella, in forty years of sexual activity, is only marginally in front of what a modern 20 something has achieved in his first 10 years. 20 something females have had nearly double the number of sexual partners than their female hippie counterparts managed to rack up in 40 years of sexual activity.
So what is the characteristic of a sexually promiscuous American? Well they are most likely black, not well educated but on a moderate income and not living with a partner. And before the white readership race up to the high moral ground they may like to consider that Mexican Americans are less promiscuous and more entitled to that spot.
And finally, it appears that the old stereotypes are correct, married men are less faithful than married women with 7.3% of married men having an affair that year as compared to 3.1% of married women.
